Pre Columbian art A charming Moche stirrup vessel of a sea lion in play swimming on its back with a small ball in its mouth.
As a coastal culture the Moche would have been very familiar with sea lions, excavations have confirmed they were hunted and they may have been considered to have some special mystical associations featuring in stirrup vessels and textiles.
Condition: Fine, collection number on base Size height 32 cm, width 31 cm. 8 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches.
Pre-Columbian, Peru (North Coast), Moche Culture, ca. 100 to 700 CE. .
